The exhibition titled 'Romancing Sindh' is a part of Sindh Cultural Festival, held at Full Circle gallery in collaboration with 'SozaanKaar', to celebrate the cultural heritage of the province.
‘Romancing Sindh’ is curated by Guddo Haider Tajammul, the owner of the gallery as well as the brand, SozaanKaar.
Haider explains that it was her idea to represent the heritage and show the transition to modernity through textile work as she has been collecting old textile designs for many years and some of them are a hundred years old as well. She also added that Scheherezade Junejo was always there to help and support her.
One wall of the gallery displayed the images of Sufi singers and the other was dedicated to the Bhuttos. Haider says that when you talk about Sindh you cannot ignore Sufism or the Bhutto family.
The main piece of the exhibition was a textile installation with Ralli, Ajrak and colorful pieces of cloth representing women.
To this, Haider added that women play a very important role in our culture though they are not given enough respect. Hence, she has elevated her installation to show she is dignified and above all. There was a portrait of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto by Amin Gulgee and several other paintings by Artists Ali Abbas, Imran Zaib and Imran Soomro. The exhibition will be open until February 15.
